The 672 Series Cable Railing Kit by Ultra-Tec features a surface-mount to through-post configuration, along with two different cable size options and a wide variety of lengths and was specifically designed for use with wooden posts. It includes an Adjust-A-Body with Hanger Bolt which lags into one end post, and a Receiver with Push-Lock Stud on the other end, making it the ideal solution for applications where both surface-mount and through-post installations are necessary. Swageless fittings are made to easily be installed by hand in the field, requiring only the use of Cable Cutters. By using swageless fittings, the holes that need to be made only need to be as big as the bare cable that passes through. This also eliminates the use installers or expensive machinery because it can all be done by hand in a matter of minutes.
Surface-Mount to Through-Post Configurations are the only types of installations that the 672 Series can be used with. Surface-Mount installations create an organized, clean look while also serving as a secure means of installing your cable railing in situations where the back of the post is inaccesible, while the Receiver with Push-Lock Stud is designed for through-post installations. The 672 Series should not be used on angles larger than 45°. If turning 90° or more, a double corner post configuration is required. If being used on corner installations, Post Protector Tubes are strongly suggested in order to prevent post-installation bowing and erosion of posts.

Wood Post Installations
For wo/oden posts, a minimum size of 4" x 4" (3½" Sq.) is required to keep the post from bending when cables are tensioned. A top rail is also needed and is recommended that it be reinforced with a support such as a 2" x 4" on end under the top rail. End posts must also be securely mounted to the deck in order to prevent the post from coming loose while tensioning cables. Additonally, a bottom rail is recommended to to help distribute the force away from the bottom of the post, however it is not required.
Intermediate posts (or mid-posts) are to be placed every 48" between end posts. An intermediate post runs from the top rail to the lower mounting surface and is integral for proper structural design. Intermediate posts can be substituted with something thinner such as an aluminum or steel cable brace. Cables are strung through holes in each post in order to provide support between end posts. Each post hole made should not exceed 3" vertical spacing in order to comply with IBC regulations. Cable Braces can be purchased here.

*In order to comply with IBC regualtions, an intermediate post must be placed every 48" between posts and distance between each cable shall not exceed 3", however specific city and state rules and regulations may apply.
