The 212 Series Cable Railing Kit by Ultra-Tec is both the most economical cable railing kit on the market today. It features two different cable options and a wide variety of lengths to satisfy the needs of almost any application. Additionally, it is designed to be able to be used with 1½" metal posts in through-post configurations. It includes a Pull-Lock fitting with cap on one end of the cable and a pre-attached swaging stud on the other with an Invisiware Receiver to almost completely hide all fittings. With this kit's 100% swageless design specifically made for DIY homeowners, it will completely eliminate the need for expensive professional installation while also making your deck look great!
Swageless fittings are made to easily be installed by hand in the field, requiring only the use of Cable Cutters. By using swageless fittings, the holes that need to be made only need to be as big as the bare cable that passes through. This also eliminates the use installers or expensive machinery because it can all be done by hand in a matter of minutes.
Through-Post Configurations are the only mount type that the 212 Series may be used with. This means that each cable will start at one end post and continue through each intermediate post or cable brace until reaching the other end of its run. Through-Post Configurations should not be used on angles larger than 45°. If turning 90°, a double corner post configuration is required. Because these cables run though each post, it is recommended to use Stainless Steel Protector Tubes in order to extend longevity of your posts.

Metal Post Installations
For steel posts, a size of 1½” is required to keep the post from bending when cables are tensioned. End posts will need to be a minimum 1/4” wall in order to handle the load when the cables are tensioned; intermediates can be 1/8”. You will also need a top rail that is sufficient for structural integrity. For aluminum, your end posts should be reinforced and you may want to consider a bottom rail to help prevent post-bowing.
Intermediate posts (or mid-posts) are to be placed every 48" between end posts. An intermediate post runs from the top rail to the lower mounting surface and is integral for proper structural design. Intermediate posts can be substituted with something thinner such as an aluminum or steel cable brace. Cables are strung through holes in each post in order to provide support between end posts. Each post hole made should not exceed 3" vertical spacing in order to comply with IBC regulations. Cable Braces can be purchased here.

*In order to comply with IBC regualtions, an intermediate post must be placed every 48" between posts and distance between each cable shall not exceed 3", however specific city and state rules and regulations may apply.
