Does Cable Railing Need to be Replaced Every Year?

It's no secret that cable railing systems are uniquely different than vinyl, wood, or traditional aluminum picket fences. They're made up of a series of cables that can have sway in them, they are raw materials exposed to the elements rather than being coated in something, and more importantly, cable railing systems aren't nearly as dense or heavy as traditional fencing styles. While they do provide the same amount of safety as other fencing styles, maintenance is a big concern among our customers, so we've put together a few of the most common questions to set your mind at ease.

Does Cable Railing Need to be Replaced Every Year? How Long Does Cable Railing Last?

No, Cable Railing should not need replaced every year. In fact, Cable Railing should actually last as long as 50 years with proper upkeep and maintenance. This is due to their naturally rust-resistant nature as most Cable Railing Systems are made of Stainless Steel.

How to Take Care of Cable Railing?

Cable Railing is actually much easier to take care of than you might expect. Because cable railing cables are already made of stainless steel materials, it's already a rust resistant style of fence. What's more, is that really all they need is some basic cleaning every few months to remove any dirt, debris, and especially salt and sand if it's located in a coastal area. Additionally, checking all fittings for any looseness every so often will boost the longevity of your fence to hit that 50 year mark.

When To Replace/Repair Cable Railing?

Cable Railings really only need replaced if something drastic happens, typically after an extremely high impact or natural disaster. This could look like a stripped fitting, a snapped cable, a busted ferrule, something along those lines. This isn't a very common occurance as our cable fittings are built to last, and when installed correctly they should last decades. However, if you're in the need for replacement parts, replacement cable fittings are available!
